Hugh Lay

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. — Hugh Lay, 98, died Sept. 18, 2018, at the Bertrand Nursing Center in Bertrand.

Born May 1, 1920, in Bell City, son of the late Albert Charles and Mable Ramsey Lay, he had lived in Bloomfield all of his life. He was retired from Monarch Feed Mill and was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield.

On Oct. 30, 1940, in Bloomfield, he married Kathryn M. McRoy, who preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 2015.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, A.C Lay; and five sisters, Maggie Lay, Dorothy Rampley, Eula Burkhart, Jessie McRoy and Joyce Spurgeon.

Surviving are three daughters and spouses, Sharon and Robert Jones of Sikeston, Debbie Parks of Dexter and Bonnie and Roger Gibbs of Bloomfield; and 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Ronnie Stevens of Bloomfield officiating.

Burial will follow in the Walker in Bloomfield.
