Pedestrian dies after being hit by car

SIKESTON — Police are investigating a pedestrian’s death after she was struck by a vehicle Thursday in Sikeston.

At about 7:40 p.m. Thursday, officers with Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to South Main and Greer Streets in reference to the report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle, according to Capt. Austin Henley with Sikeston DPS.

The incident occurred when a vehicle was traveling southbound on South Main Street and struck a 68-year-old female pedestrian who was walking from west to east across Greer Street in Sikeston, Henley said. The woman, whose name was not released by officials, was transported to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, where she was pronounced dead at 8:01 p.m.

Sikeston DPS and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash Reconstruction Team are investigating the matter, Henley said. Further information was unavailable at the time.
