Charles Hayes
OAK HARBOR, Wash. — Charles Douglas Hayes, 60, died Sept. 11, 2018, in Oak Harbor.
Born July 2, 1958, son of the late Charles Rudolph Hayes and Iris Chambliss Hayes, he grew up in New Madrid and spent his early adulthood working on riverboats on the Mississippi River. He joined the Navy in 1983 and retired as a chief petty officer after 20 years of service. A veteran of the Gulf War, during his time in the Navy he earned several medals, including the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Navy Expeditionary Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
His wife, Robin Hayes, preceded him in death.
One sister, Holly Hayes, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: two children and their spouses, Charles Dustin (Heather) Hayes and Catherine Nichole (David) Werner; three stepchildren and their spouses, Jason Ironmoccasin, Jennifer (James) Ironmoccasin Gillard and Katelyn Ironmoccasin; one sister, Debra Grobmyer; and four grandchildren.
Visitation is from noon until service time at 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville.
Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery at New Madrid.
