In last Monday's City Council meeting held in City Hall. The Planning and Zoning (P&Z) committee presented two items for Council approval. Pattie Johnson of the P&Z committee said, “We have approved the DAEOC voluntary annexation into the city and we did a fast track on the commercial zoning on Hwy. 162 for McGruder Construction where the asphalt plant is, to temporarily zone it from Commercial to Industrial, and the P&Z Board ask you to approve this.” After some discussion, the City Council approved this recommendation.

Portageville Fire Chief George DeLisle then approached the Council with the need for a new ladder truck for the fire department. “The fire department will buy the truck. What we are looking at is a 1995 Aerial Ladder 7500. SRG Global came to me and said they get on the roof of their new building every week. If one of our guys gets hurt, can you get him down? We cannot do it! Their roof is 55 feet above ground, and we just cannot do it. A new ladder truck is too expensive, and we are still negotiating with them. The fire department has enough money through the Haunted Inn and other donations,” said DeLisle. “If we do get this truck, we need the City to ensure it. This truck would get rid of the supply truck, too,” he added.

Next, Portageville Mayor Denis McCrate brings up the August 6 meeting to the board of Alderman.

“You should have received a flash drive with the August 6 meeting on it. On the tape, it has that I did offer to have a special meeting on August 10, three days before your meeting. Also, on the tape, it was agreed to that August 20 would work,” said McCrate.

Alderman Berry, “So why are you bring this up?”

McCrate, “Well for number one, for asking for an apology for accusing me of not offering you a meeting about the SRO election. Also at that meeting, it was my understanding that we could meet at the mid-month to meet with the school administrators.

After minutes of discussion, and since the SRO election has been considered invalid from the Missouri Department of Revenue, the Mayor said it stop discussion on this and move on. By the way, there was not an apology from the alderman, unless they voiced it privately.

After approving all department reports and finances, a motion was made to go into closed session. The next monthly City Council meeting will be Monday, Nov. 5.
