Evelyn Griffin
BLOOMFIELD, Mo. — Evelyn LaVern Griffin, 81, died Nov. 2, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born April 9, 1937, near Advance, daughter of the late Elvin Shipley and Cleo Bess Smith, she had lived in this area all of her life. She had worked as secretary in the family business and was a member of God's Living Church. She had been a member of the Eastern Star and had been one of the founders of the Stoddard County Republican Club and had served as treasurer for several decades.
On Feb. 12, 1955, in Sardis, Miss., she married Gerald Griffin, who survives of the home in Bloomfield.
Other survivors include: one son, Nathan Hale Griffin of Bloomfield; brother, Ivan Griffin of Bloomfield; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard Shipley Smith, James Carl Smith and Joseph Andrew Smith.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Lighthouse Church in Dexter, where services will be at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Bill Pennington of Bloomfield and the Rev. Tim Russell of Dexter officiating.
Burial will follow in the Rock Point Cemetery near Advance with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.
