SIKESTON — Orville “PeeWee” Nelson, age 80, went to his heavenly home on Dec. 14, 2018, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born July 21, 1938, in the Big Opening Community to the late Orville and Irene Griffin Nelson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He attended Sunnyvale General Baptist Church. He served the Lord faithfully for many years as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Orville was a self-employed farmer all his life. He loved to tinker in his shop where he spent many hours engineering and fixing things. He enjoyed camping with his wife and all his family. One of his greatest joys were his granddaughters. He enjoyed spending time with them and never missed watching or listening to their basketball games.
On June 1, 1962, at New Prospect Missonary Baptist Church in Bernie, he married his beloved wife of 57 years, Charlcie.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Lee Ann Nelson of Dexter; two sisters, Janet Tuttle and Marlene Burgess of Sikeston; two granddaughters, Dr. Taylor Nelson and Kelci Nelson both of Columbia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Wade Paul Nelson; and one brother, J.W. Nelson.
We will dearly miss him, his example of love, commitment, and integrity, but find great peace in knowing we will see him again.
Friends called Monday, Dec. 17, from 10 a.m. until time of services at noon at Ponder Funeral Home with the Rev. James Hamlett, pastor of Sunnyvale General Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, with full military honors.
