Shooting death of Steele man under investigation
CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. — Police are investigating the shooting death of a Steele man Saturday in Pemiscot County.
Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell said officers were dispatched Saturday to county road 217 and Missouri Highway A following a 7:47 p.m. 911 phone call from a female advising she had shot a man in her home in self defense. Upon deputies’ arrival, they found 49-year-old David Corey Gist of Steele in the home, shot and dead. Gist was pronounced dead at the scene by Pemiscot County Coroner Jim Brimhall.
“The investigation is still ongoing, It appears it was a domestic dispute at this point,” Greenwell said early Sunday. “More will follow as the investigation progresses. One female has been interviewed. No arrests have been made at this point.”
The Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control are leading the investigation.
