CHARLESTON, Mo. — Ira Jo “Mrs. Gee” Gordon, 85, died Jan. 7, 2019, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Born April 9, 1933, in Anniston, daughter of the late Stennis Clemons Sr. and Mary Kirkland, she was of the Christian belief and a member of the Shiloh M.B. Church in Charleston, where she served for over 6o years singing in the choir and in later years served on the Mother's Board. She was employed as a secretary for Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corp. for several years. In 1984, she became secretary at Sparks Funeral Home (Williams Funeral Home) in Charleston until her retirement in December 2013.
On Jan. 30, 1952, she married Fred Lee Gordon, who preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Otha Lee, Stennis Jr. and Phillip Clemons; four sisters, Pauline Lewis, Virginia Crider, Etta Stockston and Yvonne Mack; and two grandsons.
Survivors include: four sons and two daughters-in-law, Alfred and Diane Gordon of Gary, Ind., Everett Gordon of Charleston, Kevin and Lorretta Gordon of Phoenix, Ariz., and Fabian Gordon of Cape Girardeau; four daughters and a son-in-law, JoAnn, Betty and .Cynthia Gordon of Cape Girardeau and Cecelia and Darnell Standifer of St. Louis; two brothers, Joe Mitchell Brown of Detroit, Mich., and John Clemons of Cape Girardeau; and 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, where services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with Steve Betts, elder, officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at Charleston.
