SIKESTON DEPOT MUSEUM
In recognition of Black History Month throughout the month of February a local organization, The Daughters of Sunset have put together a display of People, Places, Businesses and Organizations from the Sunset Area. These pictures are from the past as well as the present. This year Jessie Lane will be recognized for the contributions she has made for this town and community.
Jessie Lane is a matriarch of our Sunset Community. She was born in Coahoma County, Mississippi and has lived in Sikeston for more than 55 years. Jessie is a Charter Member of the Daughters of Sunset. The organization was founded in 1984 at Jessie’s home on Dixie Street during a discussion about providing lunch money for Deserving Children at our Sikeston Kindergarten center. The idea to help provide lunch money for needy children evolved into providing Scholarships for Sikeston’s graduating Seniors. Jessie believes our Youth are our Future and our organization works hard to help them achieve the best for their future. Jessie is proud of the Daughters of Sunset and that she has been a part of our organization’s success. We obtained our Not-For-Profit Community Service status with the State of Missouri in August 1986 and in 2005 our 501C (3) Status.
The Annual Regional Judged Photography Show will continue to be on display through Feb. 27. Come by and enjoy the photographs that are on display. If you enjoy photography, please consider being a part of next year’s show.
If you have three hours per month you are looking to fill, contact the Sikeston Depot Museum & Cultural Center. We welcome those who are interested in volunteering.
The Sikeston Depot Museum & Cultural Center is a non-profit entity and survives on donations, sponsorships and grants. We are committed to serving the community in cultural education and historical preservation. Admission to the museum and our events is free. Donations are always appreciated and put right back into the museum and its operations.

SIKESTON LITTLE THEATRE
Sikeston Little Theatre presents “GREASE” with Rydell High’s senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding “Burger Palace Boys” and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking “Pink Ladies” in bobby socks and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head “greaser” Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their “Summer Nights” as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as “Greased Lightnin’,” “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee,” “We Go Together,” “Sandy,” “Beauty School Drop Out,” “There Are Worse Things I Could Do,” “You’re The One That I Want,” and many, many more recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation.
There are eight performances running Feb. 21 through March 3. Tickets will go on sale for members/season ticket holders on Sunday, Feb. 3, and for everyone else on Sunday, Feb, 10. We’re sure you’ll enjoy this hopping musical so don’t wait to get your tickets as this show will likely sell out. Online tickets and ticket booth hours can be found at www.sikestonlittletheatre.com.
