PADUCAH, Ky. — The Sikeston area could see flooding as heavy rains are expected across the area over the next 24 hours,
The National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky., issued a flood watch in effect for this afternoon and tonight for the entire area. Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall may lead to areal flooding and isolated flash flooding can also not be ruled out.
Strong to isolated severe thunderstorms are also possible this evening and overnight. Damaging wind gusts should be the main hazard locally, however given the amount of wind shear that will be present, a brief spin up tornado or two cannot be ruled out.
The flood watch continues for the entire area through Thursday evening. Rainfall totals from two to four inches with isolated higher amounts are forecast. The areal flooding concern will continue along with the risk for flash flooding.
There will be a limited risk of severe thunderstorms on Thursday with the risks weakening throughout the day.
