Homicide victim is identified; investigation continuing

SIKESTON — The victim in a Monday night homicide in Sikeston has been identified.

According to Sikeston Department of Public Safety Captain Austin Henley, Marcus Dixon, 24, of Sikeston, has been identified as the victim in a shooting that occurred late Monday in Sikeston.

Henley said at approximately 11:56 p.m. Monday, Sikeston DPS responded to the area of the 800 block of William Street in reference to a shooting.

Dixon was found shot at that location and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SEMO Major Case Squad has been activated to assist with the investigation. As of Thursday afternoon, the investigation is still ongoing.

Police are looking for information in reference to this shooting and are asking anyone who has information to contact Sikeston DPS at 573-471-4711.

This is the 19th shooting and fifth homicide by a firearm in Sikeston in the last year with 12 others injured and at least 17 arrested for their role in the incidents.
