CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Charles W. Hawkins, age 79, formerly of Matthews, Mo., passed away on April 20, 2019, at his home in Cape Girardeau. He was born July 20, 1939, in Matthews, to the late Charles and Florence House Hawkins. Charles served as President of the New Madrid County School Board from April 1976 to March 1985; he served on the Regions Bank Board, formerly known as First Financial Bank from 1973 to 1996. CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Charles W. Hawkins, age 79, formerly of Matthews, Mo., passed away on April 20, 2019, at his home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 20, 1939, in Matthews, to the late Charles and Florence House Hawkins.

Charles served as President of the New Madrid County School Board from April 1976 to March 1985; he served on the Regions Bank Board, formerly known as First Financial Bank from 1973 to 1996. He also served on the New Madrid County Port Authority Board of Commissioners.

On Dec. 10, 1960, in Sikeston, he married Margie Latham Hawkins, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Hawkins Fly and Mark Fly of Nashville, Tenn., and one granddaughter, Olivia Margaret Wilson of Nashville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Colin Hawkins.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Sikeston with the Rev. Jennifer Moxley officiating.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Michael Richards, Brad Gilmer, Lance Lawson, David Pearson, Bruce Dawson and Dan Jennings.

Charles will be missed tremendously by his family and all who knew him well.
