SIKESTON — Orville Edward Skalsky, 98, passed away May 10, 2019, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Born Jan. 12, 1921, in La Forge, son of the late Charles and Golda Haynes Skalsky, during WWII Orville served as a combat infantry man in the 90th Amphibious Division and participated in the invasions of Leyte and Okinawa. He retired from Board of Municipal Utilities after 47.5 years of service, where he earned the honor of BMU employee of the year in 1984...

SIKESTON — Orville Edward Skalsky, 98, passed away May 10, 2019, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Jan. 12, 1921, in La Forge, son of the late Charles and Golda Haynes Skalsky, during WWII Orville served as a combat infantry man in the 90th Amphibious Division and participated in the invasions of Leyte and Okinawa. He retired from Board of Municipal Utilities after 47.5 years of service, where he earned the honor of BMU employee of the year in 1984.

On Sept. 16, 1946, in Charleston, he married Norma Jean Parker Skalsky, who preceded him in death on March 13, 1987.

Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Gale and Charles Ancell of Sikeston; two grandchildren, Charles David Ancell and Kristin Ancell of Nashville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Benedict and Simon Ancell; and a special friend, Mary Williams.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Stephen Edward Skalsky; one brother, Harold Skalsky; and two sisters, Grace Sturgeon and Millie Helms.

Visitation will be from noon until funeral service time at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.

Burial with full military honors will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.
