GYOT’s Murray Sullivan Scholarships awarded

Sikeston High School seniors Ella Crader and Paige Mays were presented with the first Grow Your Own Teachers (GYOT) “Murray Sullivan Scholarship” April 30 at the senior awards ceremony.  Both students will attend Southeast Missouri State University this fall.  Ella has plans of becoming a high school band director, and Paige plans to teach elementary school. The purpose of the GYOT program is to promote the teaching profession and encourage students to return to Sikeston to teach. The scholarship is given in honor of Murray Sullivan, a former Sikeston R-6 teacher and coach, for his dedication to the teaching profession. Pictured are, from left: Crader, Joann Sullivan, Murray Sullivan and Mays.
