The communities of Charleston and East Prairie are teaming up with communities from three other states to create a new community development organization.

At 10 a.m. Monday at the Fort Jefferson Cross Welcome Center in Wickliffe, Ky., representatives from four states will sign an agreement creating the Mississippi and Ohio River Confluence Economic Alliance, Inc.

Charleston and East Prairie along with Alexander County, Ill., Obion County, Tenn. and W.A.V.E. (Western Kentucky Alliance for a Vibrant Economy) of Hickman, Ballard, Carlisle and Fulton, Ky., are all involved in the new organization.

The purpose of the group is to promote economic development in the four states that border the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. Leaders in the Mississippi and Ohio River border communities will partner cooperatively on marketing and branding for economic growth to promote the region’s economic assets.
