PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — Robert Lee Nowell, 94, died July 2, 2019, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born July 29, 1924, in Portageville, son of the late Allie Estes Beaton Nowell and Isaac Columbus “Ike” Nowell, he worked for the highway department as a heavy equipment driver before retiring. Mr. Nowell served in the United States Army during World War II receiving several awards and commendations.
His wife, Marie Ruby Nowell, survives of the home in Portageville. Other survivors include: five sons, Robert Larry Nowell, Ricky Lee Nowell and Randy Michael Nowell of Portageville, Donnie William Nowell of Mount Olive, Ill., and Anthony “Tony” Allen Nowell of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Mamie “Janet” Faulk of Portageville and Patricia Lou Nowell Silman of Cape Girardeau; and 18 grandchildren, 37-great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 6 at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville, where services were at 2 p.m. July 7.
Burial with full military rites followed in the Portageville Cemetery.
