PORTAGEVILLE — Albert E. “Bud” Sisson, 77, died June 28, 2019, at the New Madrid Living Center in New Madrid.

Born July 22, 1941, in Sewickley, Penn., son of the late Edward Nufer Sisson and Cleo Gregory Sisson, he and his family moved to Mayfield, Ky., where he was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Mayfield High School in 1959. He attended Centre College in Danville, Ky., before continuing his education and receiving his degree from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in 1965. Following pharmacy school, he worked work in several independent pharmacies in Southeast Missouri before joining Butler Drug in Portageville, where he moved with his family in 1970. In 1975, he bought the drug store, owning and operating it until his semi-retirement in 2001. He retired completely in 2013. He served two terms as a city alderman, followed by two terms as mayor. In 1978, when the New Madrid County Ambulance Board was formed, he joined as chairman of the board, where he served until his retirement in 2012. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Portageville, where he was a Sunday school teacher from 1975-2010 and was ordained as a deacon in 1985. He also served in the National Guard for six years.

He married Joanne Fowler of LaForge, and she survives of the home.

Other survivors include two children, Cindi (Brad) Cook of Union City, Tenn.; and Clay (Jennifer) Sisson of Collierville, Tenn.; three brothers, Gary Sisson, of Pennsylvania, Bill Sisson, of Lexington, Ky., and Bob Sisson of Asheville, N.C.; and six grandchildren.

Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 1 at First Baptist Church in Portageville, were services were at 2 p.m. July 2.

Burial followed in the Portageville Cemetery.

DeLisle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
