CANTON, Ga. — Nellie Darlene Vinson, age 91, a longtime resident of Sikeston, Mo., passed away peacefully in Canton on June 29, 2019, with family by her side.

She was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Clarksville, Ark., and was the daughter of John and Flossie Vangilder.

She was preceded in death by her brother, James Vangilder, son Sam Vinson; and two daughters, Linda Elliott and Shirley Pearce.

Nellie lived for over 80 years in Sikeston. She was a longtime and well-known employee at the Elite and Norwood Dress Shops and the Gas Light Square. She was a championship-class golfer, avid bowler and an accomplished yodeler. She was known for her cooking and famous for her biscuits and her chicken and dumplings.

Nellie is survived by five grandchildren, Kim (and Henry) Cohen of Woodstock; Ken Elliott of Bartlett, Tenn.; Kelly Elliott of Woodstock; Trey (and Kim) Pearce of Batavia, Ill.; and Justin Depauw. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Chase, Truman, Madison, Clifton, Abby and Brianna.

Interment will be private.
