LEESBURG, Ala. — Alan Eugene Long, age 69, passed away July 14, 2019, at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden.

He was born July 26, 1949, in Grayridge, Mo., to the late James Ray Long and Electa Karma “Kay” Long (McCoy) where he resided with his younger brother, Gary Long.

He later graduated from Sikeston Senior High School in 1967 where he was on the wrestling team, attended the University of Missouri Columbia, and attained a degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 1972.

On March 18, 1989, he married the love of his life, Eva Long (Cobb), who survives of the home in Leesburg.

His employment included Spitzmiller, Hobbs and Clay as CPA (Sikeston, Mo.), Burch Food Services as Controller (Sikeston), Brooks Beverage Management as Director of Information Technology (Holland, Mich.), Dr Pepper/7up Bottling Group-Midwest as Director of Information Technology (Northlake, Ill.) Most recently, Alan resided in Leesburg in retirement.

He enjoyed fishing, working with computers, science fiction, surveillance technology, and spending time with his family.

Alan had a very witty sense of humor, reserved personality perfectly matching his soulmate in wife Eva whom he utterly adored, keen intellect, and confident can do attitude. He frequently took computers completely apart and fixed them rather than accept their failings or replace them.

In addition to his wife of 30 years, surviors include: one son, Matthew Long and wife Carrie of Lathrup Village, Mich.; two daughters, Julie Matthews (Long) and husband Mike of Westfield, Ind., and Crystal Dye of Leesburg; five grandchildren, Tori Matthews and Sam Matthews, Katelyn Long and Connor Long, Evan Dye; one brother, Gary and wife April Long of Kansas City, Mo.; his mother-in-law, Edith Cobb of Dexter, Mo.
