Law enforcement is currently looking for a person involved in multiple accidents on Interstate 55 that involved one fatality.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Myron A. Tillmon, 54, is a person of interest in a fatal accident on I-55 at the 88-mile marker and leaving the scene of a crash at the 111-mile marker.
A search for Tillmon took place at the 111-mile marker of I-55 near the Cowboy Church after the truck he was driving northbound in the southbound lane of struck another vehicle. Initial reports were Tillmon’s vehicle caught fire, and he exited the vehicle, stripped to his underwear and fled into the woods. The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office warned residents near KK and 55 as law enforcement officers, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter and search dogs were searching the area for Tillmon. The search in the area was terminated at just after 3 p.m.
The incident began shortly after 11 a.m. when a truck was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-55 near mile marker 88. When officers arrived on scene at the 88-mile marker, a body was found on the inside shoulder of the highway. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the victim was identified as Claude L. Nix Jr., 42.
Southbound lanes of I-55 were closed and traffic was re-routed to US 61 for over three hours as officers investigated the incident.
