PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — The Portageville Bulldogs won their first game of the season and the first game for new coach Mark Jackson Friday, defeating Grandview 40-15.

“I could not be more proud of these guys,” said Jackson.

Cameron Hollingshead set the pace for the Bulldogs in the first quarter with a 59-yard touchdown.

“However, we still have a lot to clean up on,” Jackson said. “We were way too penalized in the second quarter, and we have got to do better on offense.

“We made a nice big step in a good direction tonight, but we have to do better. We play at Malden next week and they are 0-2, believe me they will be ready to play us next week. I think our kids are playing hard, but not playing clean yet.”

Jared Crafton had a huge third quarter, catching a 79-yard touchdown pass and then returned a punt and kickoff for touchdowns, both over 50 yards to help turn the game around for the Bulldogs.

“To me, Jared Crafton is the best running back in southeast Missouri,” Jackson said. “He showed out tonight and it was his night. He single handedly won the ball game for us. But I have two sophomore running backs, Josh Adams and Martivius Hopkins that also played very well for us.”
