Opal Colbert

MALDEN, Mo. — Opal Colbert, 93, died Sept. 18, 2019, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born April 1, 1926, in Quoita, Okla., daughter of the late Charles Samuel Jolly and Mary Elizabeth Sears Jolly, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Portageville.

Her husband, William Jennings “Jake” Colbert, preceded her in death.

Survivors include: six daughters, Kathleen (John) McWhireer and Janet Lutes of Sikeston, Carolin (A.C.) Hamilton of Portageville, Doris Chapman of Brevard, N.C., Audrey (Scott) Mitchem of Malden and Karen (Ray) Colbert-Treece of New Madrid; numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Samuel Lee Colbert; three daughters, Joyce Horton, Julie Colbert and Loretta Mims; and seven brothers.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service at noon Friday at First Baptist Church in Portageville. The Rev. John Compere will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Mounds Park Cemetery at Lilbourn.

Ponder Funeral Home of Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
