ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Mary Elizabeth “Liz” McNew, age 74, passed away on Oct. 29, 2019, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born Oct. 24, 1945, in Sayre, Ala., to the late Hubert and Margaret Phillips Hill.
She retired from Unilever in 2005 after 24 years of service.
On June 25, 1965, in Morehouse, she married I.B. McNew Jr., who preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 2005.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Corey and Shannon McNew of Cape Girardeau; one brother, Ted Elliott of Jackson; one sister, Alleen Eakers of Morehouse; three grandchildren, Connor, Christian and Molly Claire McNew all of Cape Girardeau; three very special nieces, Kathy Hammon, Theresa Eakers and Wissie Hampton.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Tommy Dean McNew; two brothers, Tommy Edward Elliott and Sonny Elliott.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston with Rick Breeden, pastor of Essex Apostolic Church in Essex, officiating.
Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
Pallbearers will be: Steve Hampton, Colton Hampton, Logan Hampton, Connor McNew, Christian McNew and Corey McNew.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Ted Elliott, Sonny Bryant, Rob Clay, Donnie Beggs, Jeremy Crook, Chuck Kasting, Anthony Meadows and Chris Link.
