Business Spotlight: Locally owned and operated, First Midwest Bank has been in Sikeston for 28 years
SIKESTON — Steve Millington began in banking 47 years ago, filing checks and putting together bank statements for customers. After working in nearly all aspects of banking, Millington now serves as community bank president at First Midwest Bank in Sikeston.
Located on North Main Street in Sikeston, with additional locations in Dexter, Cape Girardeau and Jackson, First Midwest Bank was founded by a small group of businessmen in 1964 and is still locally owned and operated, opening the Sikeston location 28 years ago.
“We love the personal relationships we’ve developed with our customers over the years,” Millington said. “I’ve been with the bank for 25 of the 28 years we’ve been in Sikeston and that’s allowed me to get to see my customers and their families become successful in their own lives.”
Millington is not the only long-time employee at First Midwest as he mentioned co-workers Kathy Ray and Kendall Ayers have been vital parts of the bank for many years.
“Kathy has been with the bank since the day we opened and she could tell you the names of all her customers’ kids and probably grandkids,” Millington said. “Kendall has been with us for 17 years and I’m not sure there’s a person in Sikeston he doesn’t know.”
Millington said First Midwest is proud to be in Sikeston and intend to be in the community for a long time to come.
“The thing about a community bank like First Midwest is we wouldn’t be in business if it wasn’t for the loyalty of our customers and employees, and that’s at the heart of everything we do and every decision we make,” Millington said. “We have invested in this community and we’re lucky to have a community that’s invested back in us.”
