BERTRAND, Mo. — James David Peters, 71, died Nov. 12, 2019, at his home in Bertrand. Born Nov. 1, 1948, at Sikeston, son of the late John Albert Peters Sr. and Mabel Ann Woods Peters, he was a lifelong resident of Bertrand. A retired farmer, he was employed by D&S Salvage at the time of his death. He was a deacon and treasurer of the Bertrand First Baptist Church. A graduate of Charleston High School, he joined Missouri National Guard after graduation and was a member of the Bertrand Jaycees.

BERTRAND, Mo. — James David Peters, 71, died Nov. 12, 2019, at his home in Bertrand.

Born Nov. 1, 1948, at Sikeston, son of the late John Albert Peters Sr. and Mabel Ann Woods Peters, he was a lifelong resident of Bertrand. A retired farmer, he was employed by D&S Salvage at the time of his death. He was a deacon and treasurer of the Bertrand First Baptist Church. A graduate of Charleston High School, he joined Missouri National Guard after graduation and was a member of the Bertrand Jaycees.

On July 3, 1971, in Charleston, he married Carolyn Elizabeth Stricker, who survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Brent Peters and his fiancee, Tracy Roth, of Benton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie and Jamie Johnson and Blaire and Ian Penrod of East Prairie; four brothers, Mike Peters of Charleston, Jerry Peters of Benton, Rick Peters of Mattoon, Ill., and Larry Peters of Bement; two sisters, Dianne Babb and Donna Peters of Charleston; and six grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Peters Jr., and Steven Peters; and three sisters, Barbara Miller, Dorothy Elser and Betty Crook.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. George White will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: Seth Peters, Ross Peters, Phillip Warren, Flipper Naile, Shawn Wente, Jim Wente and Daniel Babb.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Miller, Jerry Mann and Grover Morrow.
