Marcella Hon

RISCO, Mo. — Marcella Eloise Hon, 91, died on Nov. 12, 2019, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born Aug. 8, 1928, in Alton, Ill., to the late Rube Johnson and Lottie Mae Burch, Marcella was a member of the First Baptist Church in Risco, Blytheville, Ark., and Poplar Bluff. She was secretary at Risco High School until 1970, before retiring from New Madrid County R-1 Schools in 1990.

On March 13, 1944, in New Madrid, she married Roy Hon shortly before he entered the Armed Services to serve in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Marcella’s life was centered on her relationship with Christ, her family and her church. She enjoyed decorating, creative arts and was an avid reader who worked as a librarian after retirement.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Barbie Hon of Ellsinore; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Daniel Kimes of New Madrid, and Phyllis and Doyle Swiney of Fulton; one sister, Doris Allen of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Vernon (Smokey) Johnson of Parma, George Ellerbrook of Weatherford, Texas, and Jackie and Shirley Ellerbrook  of Arlington, Texas; six grandchildren, Daniele Kimes of Austin, Texas, Jarred Kimes of Clinton, Tenn., Katie and Taylor Surly of Bella Vista, Ark., Bethanie Swiney of Warrenton, Alexa Hon of Bend, Ore.,  and Austin Hon of Rolla.

Visitation is to be Monday, Nov. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Risco. Services are to be conducted following the visitation at 11:30 a.m. with Brother Lonnie Mittag officiating.

Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
