New Madrid man killed in one-vehicle accident

SCOTT CITY, Mo. — A New Madrid, Mo., man was killed in a one-vehicle accident early Monday morning.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Robert E. Law, 49, was northbound on Interstate 55 at the 88.6 mile marker at 5:08 a.m. Monday in his 2016 Freightliner, when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a guardrail and bridge railing and ran off an embankment.

Law was pronounced dead by Scott County Coroner Scott Amick at 5:12 a.m. The death was the 52nd fatality for Troop E in 2019.
