BERTRAND, Mo. — Margie A. Mickel, 85, died Jan. 12, at at the Bertrand Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born July 24, 1934, in Gideon, to the late Richard “Dick” Owens and Goldie Marguerite Owens. Following her graduation from Gideon High in 1952, she attended Central Methodist University. In 1967, she and her family moved to East Prairie. She taught elementary education at Peach Orchard, Matthews Elementary, Dorena and East Prairie, as well as junior high English. In 1976, she became music teacher and choir director at East Prairie Junior High, until her retirement in 1994. She came out of retirement to teach music for one year at Charleston Middle School, served as a substitute teacher in the area and later became the facilitator for the East Prairie High School Spanish class from 2009-2014. She gave many students piano lessons in her home and served as a pianist, organist and Sunday school teacher for First Baptist Church of East Prairie.
On Feb. 6, 1954, she married Alan Mickel, who preceded her in death.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Michael (Regina) Mickel of East Prairie; one daughter, Tracey Marguerite Mickel of East Prairie; and four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dickie Owens.
Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. until time for memorial services at 7p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in East Prairie. Steve Douglas and Mark Douglas will officiate.
Private interment will follow at a later date in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
