Sikeston man jailed on domestic violence charges

SIKESTON — A Sikeston man faces multiple charges after allegedly striking his ex-girlfriend in the head with a broom.

David Lewis IV, 27, is charged with felony second-degree domestic assault, felony armed criminal action and misdemeanor possession of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid of 11-35 grams, according to online court records.

At 5:06 p.m. Tuesday, an officer with Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to the 800 block of West Gladys in reference to a third-degree assault, according to DPS incident reports. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the female who alleged that her ex-boyfriend — identified as Lewis —got into a verbal argument with her, said Capt. Austin Henley with Sikeston DPS. During the argument, the female said he struck her in the head with a broom, knocking her down. He then allegedly struck her in the head several times with a closed fist, she told police

Lewis was located short time later on a traffic stop and was taken into custody, Henley said.

As of Thursday, bond had not been set, and Lewis was scheduled to appear at 1 p.m. Friday before Judge Zachary Horack in Scott County Court.
