Four Sikeston firefighters injured while responding to blaze
SIKESTON — Four Sikeston firefighters were injured Friday after a roof collapsed while they were responding to a residential fire.
At 5:37 p.m. Friday officers with Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to 105 Bohannon Drive in reference to a structure fire out of town, according to Evelyn Aceves, public information officer for DPS.
“Upon arrival, flames were located on the roof near the rear of the residence. While inside the residence, the roof collapsed on top of four Sikeston firefighters,” Aceves said.
The injured firefighters were taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center and Saint Francis Medical Center. According to Aceves, one fireman was kept overnight to monitor his injuries; the second fireman received a broken hand during the incident. The third and fourth firemen received minor injuries from the heavy debris with no burns, she said.
“All are expected to recover,” Aceves said.
The residence was unoccupied at the time.
“We want to thank South Scott County ambulance District, Scott County Sheriff’s Department and Scott County Rural Fire Department for their quick response,” Aceves said.
