SCOTT CITY, Mo. — James H. "Tex" May Jr., age 74, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
He was born Oct. 21, 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri, son of the late James H. May Sr. and Kathleen Locke May, he was a cable splicing technician for Southwestern Bell and AT&T before retiring.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, Missouri; the Elks Lodge in Chaffee, Missouri, where he was Past Exalted Ruler; the Knights of Columbus in Scott City, Missouri, where he was a Fourth Degree, Past Grand Knight and President of Columbus Club; and Communication Workers Union, where he was Past President.
On Dec. 11, 1964, at Vanduser, Missouri, he married Glendella Gossett May; she survives of the home in Scott City.
Other survivors include: one son, James H. (Carrie) May III of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Sharlet (Roger) Giltner of Brookport, Illinois, and Amanda (Bill) Ponder of Kelso, Missouri; one sister, Susan (Gary) Mullen of Steelville, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Roger Giltner Jr., Joshua (Carly) Giltner, Katelin May, James H. May IV, Nylik Dunn, Olivia Ponder, and Ella Ponder; and two great-grandchildren, Sawyer Caneer and Annalie Giltner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John May; and one sister, Lillie May.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, where funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 10, at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow in the St. Augustine Cemetery in Kelso.
Pallbearers will be: Joshua Giltner, Roger Giltner, Jr., James H. May IV, Nylik Dunn, Matt Holder, Tim Mullen, Bill Ponder and James H. May III.
Ponder Funeral Home of Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
