CHARLESTON, Mo. —Frances W. Jackson Slaten, 97, died Feb. 8, 2020, at Bertrand Nursing Center in Bertrand.
Born Oct. 10, 1922, in Mississippi County, Missouri, daughter of the late C.J. “Jody” Jackson and Maude Kidd Jackson, she had lived most of her life in Charleston where she owned and operated Slaten’s Grocery a number of years and had worked as an Avon representative. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charleston.
On June 22, 1950, she married Carlton Roy Slaten, who preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1997.
Survivors include: four children, Richard (Lucy) Slaten, Mary Frances (Russell) Summers, Carla (Carl) Riley and Eddie (Becky) Slaten; and 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Tessie Walker, Charles Jackson, Augusta Jackson, Joseph Jackson, Margaret Wheelen, Ella Moore, Evelyn Sanders, George Jackson and A.V. Jackson.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Mike McKinney, pastor of the Southside Baptist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Scott Slaten, Joe Slaten, Tom Summers, Matt Slaten, Jerry Burton, Logan Burton and Nicholas Burton.
