SIKESTON — Zelma Mae DeWitt, 92, died Feb. 8, 2020, at the Miner Nursing Center.

Born July 9 1927, in the Big Opening community, daughter of the late James “Howard” and Emma Tate DeWitt, she graduated from Matthews High School in 1947. She was a former member of the Little Vine and North Acres General Baptist Churches. She taught at York School for two years before working at Woolworths, Bank of Sikeston, Lieble and Crumpecker, Malone and Hyde before retiring from the Fleming Company in 1992.

Survivors include: two sisters, OmaLeane DeWitt Nelson and Berneda J. DeWitt Greene of Sikeston; nine nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and -nephews; and many great-great-nieces and -nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one infant sister, Margie Martha DeWitt; two brothers, Millard DeWitt and Amos DeWitt; and one nephew, Marty Nelson.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel with Joe McCullough of Murray Lane Baptist Church officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be: Chip Greene, Johnathan DeWitt Clayton, Mike DeWitt, Blake DeWitt, Scott Hepler and Carl Kinnison.
