SIKESTON — The Sikeston Parks and Recreation Department is cancelling or rescheduling all special events planned for the near future.

According to a release from Director of Parks and Recreation Dustin Care, the 1K Donut Dash, scheduled for Saturday, has been rescheduled for a future date which will be announced next month. Those that can’t attend the new date will be issued a full refund, unless they want to keep their T-shirt, which is $5.

The Youth and Tween Easter Egg Hunt planned for April 2 is cancelled and won’t be rescheduled.

The Adult Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt, scheduled for April 3, has been rescheduled for May 29. The event time has been changed to 7-10:30 p.m. There will be food trucks and adult beverages to purchase; gates open at 8:30 p.m. with the hunt beginning at 9 p.m. on JBR Baseball Field. Wristbands are available to purchase for $10.

Those that cannot attend the new date can bring their wristband to the Clinton Building for a full refund beginning April 3. Clinton Building hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Kid’s Garage Sale planned for April 4 has been cancelled and those that have paid for a table will be issued a full refund.

Brunch with the Easter Bunny, scheduled for April 10, has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

The Clinton Building will be closed to the public through April 3 and all building reservations from March 17 to May 1 will be cancelled and renters will be issued a full refund of their payment.

“We are not taking any additional reservations for any events during these weeks and this could possibly affect future reservations if deemed necessary,” Care said in the release. “We will also not be taking any reservations for park shelters or for the use of ballfields until further notice.”

All parks will remain open for public use, however, some restroom facilities throughout the parks system may have limited access. The Sikeston Parks and Recreation Department is unable to clean and sanitize surfaces such as playgrounds, picnic tables and benches, so visitors are encouraged to use their judgement and follow CDC guidelines, including social distancing.

“We recommend no organized groups use our park facilities until Friday, April 3, as the parks are open to provide places for individuals or families to get some fresh air, walk, jog, let their dogs play and for other personal benefits,” Care said.

The Clinton Building will remain open for phone calls, questions and other business, however, the Parks Department encourages everyone to either email or call for communication as the building will be closed to the public until April 3. The Parks and Recreation main number is 573-475-3725. Olivia Roberts can be reached by email at oroberts@sikeston.org for general information, program information and reservations while Care can be reached at dcare@sikeston.org for any facility issues.
