PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — The Portageville Fire Department had a busy weekend, responding to multiple calls, including a semi-fire early Monday morning.
According to the Portageville Fire and Rescue Page, on Saturday, the Portageville Fire Department responded to three different calls, beginning at 6:17 p.m. when a fire alarm sounded at Federal Compress. After it was found to be a false alarm, firefighters were paged for a small brush fire at 6:40 p.m. The fire, located along Interstate 55 at the 35.8 mile marker was quickly contained.
At 9:15 p.m. the Portageville Fire Department was paged again for sheds on fire behind a residence on Stafford Drive. Upon fire fighters arrival, the shed was found fully involved and had set the neighbors shed on fire as well.
Fire fighters were able to save a majority of the neighbors sheid but the original shed was a total loss along a fence in between the property. After extinguishing the fire, fire fighters helped deliver Easter eggs for the community.
Then at 12:30 a.m. Monday, fire fighters were paged to a semi truck fully involved in the parking lot next to the Phillips 66 gas station on Highway 162.
At the time of the page it was unclear if anyone was inside the truck and when fire fighters arrived on the scene they found heavy flames coming from the cab. Fire fighters were able to extinguish the fire and a search of the cab was done with nobody found inside.
Fire fighters were on scene approximately two hours and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
