UPDATED NUMBERS: 4 more staff members, another inmate test positive at prison

The Missouri Department of Corrections reports one additional inmate and four staff members at the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston have tested positive for the coronavirus as of Wednesday. This brings the prison’s total number of confirmed cases to 31 inmates and nine staff members. According to the Mississippi County Health Department, the Charleston prison has 400 test kits available to test inmates and employees with some of those being retests from the previous targeted testing that was done back in April.

As of Wednesday, Mississippi County currently has 33 positive cases of COVID-19 confirmed, the health department said. Two people that have tested positive are Mississippi County residents, and those people have been contacted and the health department is working on the close contact list for those individuals, it said. The other 31 cases are from the prison.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Missouri has 9,102 positive cases and 396 deaths as of 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Scott County Health Department reported it has 76 positive cases as of Wednesday afternoon. Of those positive cases, there have been two deaths and 25 are still active.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services information released Friday, one congregate living facility in Scott County has had an outbreak. A congregate living facility include: long-term care facilities, which include skilled nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities, assisted living facilities and residential care facilities that provide nursing or convalescent care. As previously reported, the Sikeston Convalescent Center has had a number of cases in their memory wing.

The number of positive cases continues to increase in Pemiscot County. Early Wednesday, the Pemiscot County Health Center reported its 48th and 49th confirmed confirmed COVID-19 cases. Of the 49 positive cases, 28 are active with 18 released and there have been three deaths. Five are currently hospitalized.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, one congregate living facility in Pemiscot County has had an outbreak.

As of Wednesday, the Stoddard County Public Health Center reported 24 positive cases with five active and 19 recovered.

The Dunklin County Health Department reported 23 positive cases Tuesday with five active. Sixteen of the confirmed cases have recovered with two deaths.

The New Madrid County Health Department is reporting 11 positive cases.
