UPDATED NUMBERS: Another death reported in Scott County; 42 inmates and 14 staff members positive at SECC

Another death related to COVID-19 has been reported in Scott County while more inmates and staff members have tested positive at the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston.

The Scott County Health Department reported their sixth death related to COVID-19 Monday afternoon while announcing 81 positive cases. Of those, 22 are still active with 53 recovered. There have only been three new positive cases since Thursday.

There are now 42 inmates and 14 staff members that have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Southeast Correctional Center according to the Department of Corrections Monday morning.

According to the Missouri Department of Corrections, all protocols are being followed to minimize exposure. Everyone who has had close contact with a staff member testing positive for COVID-19 has been notified. Staff who have been exposed to a COVID-19-positive colleague have been sent home for 14 days of quarantine.

Offenders in each facility are provided with protective face coverings and are monitored for symptoms. If symptoms appear, symptomatic offenders and their cell mates are isolated, separately, pending test results.

When a staff member tests positive for COVID-19, the results are shared with people in the affected locations first, and then all staff are notified.

There are currently 47 positive cases in Mississippi County with 42 of those being inmates at the prison.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, New Madrid County has 12 positive cases with 29 positive cases in Stoddard County. Bollinger County has four positive cases, Butler County has 27 positive cases, Cape Girardeau County has 51 positive cases and Dunklin County has 24 positive cases.

The Pemiscot County Health Center is reporting 66 positive cases with 39 active and five hospitalized. There have three deaths in Pemiscot County.

Statewide, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is reporting an increase of just 74 cases from yesterday with six additional deaths. That brings the state’s total positive cases to 9,918 with 488 deaths.
