Aretha Smoot
CHICAGO — Aretha Banks-Smoot, 74, died May 21, 2020, in Chicago.
Born July 11, 1945. in Bell City, Missouri, daughter of the late Rodgers and Virgie Lee Sims Banks Sr., she was of the Christian belief and had been a member of Good News Community Church in Chicago. She attended South Master School, Truman Elementary, Bell City High School and was a 1963 graduate of Scott County Central High School. She had worked at Zenith TV, Curtius Candy Company and Vapor Corp. from which she retired after 30 years.
She was married to Mack Smoot.
Survivors include: two sons, Daryl Keith and Orlando Terrell (Lawanda); one daughter, Donna Juray (Jessie); six brothers, Melvin Banks, Donald Banks, Delbert Banks, Oscar Townsend, Larry Townsend and Marvin Townsend; two sisters, Sarah Jones Woodson and Abigail Banks; and 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Haywood City, Missouri, with burial ollowing in the JC Pullen Memorial Gardens at Bell City. All attendees should social distancing rules and wear face masks.
The Williams Funeral Home of Sikeston, Missouri, is in charge of local arrangements.
