Scott County with 13 more coronavirus cases Tuesday as numbers grow

The local area saw numerous new positive COVID-19 cases over the weekend and early this week, including an additional death.

The Scott County Health Department reported the county’s 13th death on Monday along with 36 additional positive cases since Friday. That gives the county 227 positive cases with 56 active along with 158 recovered.

Of the new cases, seven are between the ages of 50-59, six are between the ages of 20-29 and 60-69, five between the ages of 30-39 and 40-49, with three over the age of 80 while two under the age of 19 and one between the age of 70-79.

The New Madrid County Health Department reported 30 additional cases since Friday, giving the county 81 positive cases. Of those, 37 are active with 44 recovered and one death.

The Mississippi County Health Department is reporting 118 positive cases, including 71 in the general population, an increase of six since Friday. Twenty-three cases are currently active in the general population with 48 recovered.

The health department has been notified of a positive case that attended Music in the Park in Charleston on July and it has been determined that individuals that also attended activities at this event may have been exposed.

Anyone who was at the event is encouraged to closely monitor themselves for signs and symptoms through July 24 due to the potential exposure.

There have also been 47 inmates test positive at the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston where the Missouri Department of Corrections reports all but one have recovered. Twenty staff members have also tested positive with three cases still active.

The Stoddard County Public Health Center reported nine additional cases since Friday, giving the county 158 positive cases. Of those, 22 are active while 123 have recovered with nine deaths.

The Dunklin County Health Department reported an increase of nine cases since Friday, giving the county 131 positive cases with 30 active and 98 recovered. There have been three deaths.

The Pemiscot County Health Center reported 21 additional cases over the weekend, with 137 positive cases now in the county. Of those, 25 are active with 106 recovered and six deaths.

According to the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center, there were 29 additional confirmed cases on Monday with 42 probable, giving the county 398 cases with 177 active. There have been 217 recoveries with three deaths.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported 936 new positive cases on Tuesday with 10 additional deaths. Missouri now has had 28,826 positive cases with 1,093 deaths.

Missouri has seen a 6.8% increase in positive cases in the last week. Currently there are 932 Missourians hospitalized, the most since May 5 with 984 residents were hospitalized.

On Monday, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson signed a new law that ensures that COVID-19 testing, if recommended by a doctor, will be free to patients. The change takes effect immediately.
