SIKESTON — A Sikeston bank closed for the day following a gas leak early Monday.

Just before 8 a.m. Monday, officers with Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to Montgomery Bank, 1 Montgomery Plaza, in Sikeston in reference to a carbon monoxide alarm, according to Capt. Austin Henley, fire division commander for Sikeston DPS.

“The investigation revealed an issue with a gas appliance not operating correctly, causing elevated carbon monoxide levels in the building. The building was ventilated, and the appliance was shut off,” Henley said.

The incident occurred before the bank opened to the public so there were a couple staff members in the building, Henley said. No injuries were reported.

“Our Sikeston branch is temporarily closed due to a gas leak,” Montgomery Bank posted on its official Facebook page around 10 a.m. Monday. “We anticipate the branch opening tomorrow (Tuesday). We ask that you please utilize our Miner drive-thru for banking services today. We appreciate your patience as we work to get this issue taken care of.”
