Judge sentences Sikeston man to 180 months in prison
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – A Sikeston, Missouri, man was sentenced to prison on robbery and firearm charges
Jamal Brooks, 23, of Sikeston was sentenced on Wednesday to 180 months in prison for interference with commerce by robbery and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. He appeared before United States Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh.
On Oct. 12, 2018, Brooks went to Gas and Goodies located in Sikeston, holding a small pistol and was pointing it at the store clerk. Brooks told the store clerk to give him the money. Brooks reached into the register and took cash from the drawer. On Oct. 29, 2018, again, Brooks went to Gas and Goodies store in Sikeston holding a pistol and pointing it at the store clerk. Brooks demanded money from the cash register. The store clerk gave Brooks the money from the register. The amount taken during the robbery was $250. Officers went to the scene, but were unable to locate a suspect. Later, officers received a tip the person who robbed the store was Brooks. Officers arrested Brooks for the robberies. Brooks admitted he committed both robberies of the Gas and Goodies convenience store on Oct. 12 and Oct. 29, 2018. He said he used a pistol during both robberies and described each pistol.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sikeston Department of Public Safety investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney Keith Sorrell prosecuted the case.
