Seven deaths related to COVID-19 reported by area health departments Thursday

Seven deaths related to COVID-19 were reported by local health departments on Thursday.

The New Madrid County Health Department reported two deaths Thursday making 15 residents who have died related to COVID-19 since the pandemic began. No additional information was given on the deaths.

The health department also reported four new positive cases Thursday. Currently there are 24 active cases in the county with 484 out of quarantine.

The Cape Girardeau Public Health Center reported four deaths on Thursday. One resident was in their 70s, another in their 80s and with two in their 90s. There have been 23 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the county.

According to the health department, there are 443 active cases in Cape County with 1,244 recoveries.

The Cape County Board of Health has extended the Face-Covering Order until Oct. 27 for businesses and residents of Cape Girardeau County.

According to a release from the health department, the decision to issue and extend the Face-Covering Order was not taken lightly. Multiple factors were considered including the positivity rate of testing, increasing regional hospitalization rates, increasing active cases in Cape County and the condition of the Southeast Region.

One death was reported by the Dunklin County Health Department Thursday, making the 10th in the county related to the virus.

There are 202 active cases in Dunklin County with 592 recovered.

The Scott County Health Department reported 10 new positive cases Thursday along with eight recoveries. To date, there are 111 active cases with 731 recoveries and 16 deaths.

On Friday morning, the Mississippi County Health Department announced there had been 12 new positive cases reported since Monday. One of the those is at the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston with 11 reported in the general community.

The number of active cases decreased from 43 on Monday to 34 on Friday, with 25 confirmed and nine probable. There has been six deaths reported in the county since the pandemic began.

Ten new cases were reported in Stoddard County Thursday by the health department, giving the county 105 active cases with 411 recoveries and 17 deaths.
