SIKESTON — Alvin Anderson (A.A.) Miller, 94, passed away Oct. 18, 2020, in Sikeston. He was born Nov. 5, 1925, at Punkin Center in Dunklin County, Missouri, son of the late Luther Grissom Miller and Florence Rosy Dees Miller. He farmed in the Marston, Missouri, area for over 40 years and had been self-employed in recyclable metals. ...

SIKESTON — Alvin Anderson (A.A.) Miller, 94, passed away Oct. 18, 2020, in Sikeston.

He was born Nov. 5, 1925, at Punkin Center in Dunklin County, Missouri, son of the late Luther Grissom Miller and Florence Rosy Dees Miller. He farmed in the Marston, Missouri, area for over 40 years and had been self-employed in recyclable metals. He volunteered for military service during World War II and served honorably in the US. Marine Corps, Second Marine Division, from 1943-1947, including during the Battle of Saipan and as part of the Occupation Army of Japan. As a Christian, he was a member of the Davis Street Church of Christ in New Madrid.

When he returned home from the Marines, his sisters introduced him to their schoolfriend, Mavis V. McWhirter. Three weeks after their first date, they were married on Dec. 24, 1947. She preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 2003.

Survivors include: two daughters and one son-in-law, Judy and Mike Duley of Dexter, Missouri, and Juletta CarnelI of Marston; one son and daughter-in-law, Alvin and Cindy MilIer of Marston; six grandchildren and their spouses, Michael (Tina) Duley of Jackson, Matthew (Katy) Duley of Dexter, Melissa (Wayne) Duren of Fayette, Jessica Duley (Demont Scott) of Sikeston, Carrie (Jeremy) McCormic of Many, Louisiana and Robert (Heather) Miller of West Plains; nine great-grandchildren, Logan Duley of Mayfield, Kentucky., Kalynn (Kolton) Douglas of Paragould, Arkansas, Morgan and Tanner Duley of Jackson, Spencer Duren of Columbia, Maddi Duren of Fayette McCormic of Many, Alvin Andrew Miller and Gabriella Miller of West Plain, Dreya Straughter and Tiya Scott of Sikeston; one great-great-grandson, Waylon Cooper Elliott Duley of Mayfield; other relatives and many friends. 

He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Robert A. Miller; and all 11 of his brothers and sisters, Tommy, Hubert, Opal, Robert, Clyde, Vernon, Lenard Lucille, and Lendell Miller, Mildred Miller Burr and Althie Miller Friedman.

Visitation was Tuesday at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid, Missouri, where services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Burial followed in the Mounds Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Chuck Palmer, Ralph Palmer, Kirk Palmer, Mark Wade, John Harris and Scott Griffin.
