EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. — Barney L. Webster of East Prairie, the original and longtime “voice” of KYMO Radio has gone silent. Barney Webster passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020.

Whether you heard him on commercials for local businesses, news reports of from area events when he was “live on location” from places like the Sikeston Bootheel Rodeo, the Sweetcorn Festival, and from the Kingsway Mall, Barney possessed a commanding voice that was woven into the fabric of the River Delta for some 50 years.

Barney was also very community oriented and gave his time and energy for many community causes including fundraisers, pageants, and festivals. Oftentimes, Barney was the emcee of these events.

Equally important, Barney recognized the raw talent of many aspiring broadcasters.  The list of broadcasters who got their start at KYMO reads like at “Who’s Who” of broadcasting with many KYMO alumni distinguishing themselves with successful careers at top-rated radio and television stations around the country.  Barney’s memory will survive in the success of his many “radio children.”

A memorial service be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 18, 2020, outside of the KYMO Radio Station near East Prairie. Rev. George White will officiate.

McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.

Please share your memories on the online guestbook at www.mcmiklefuneralhome.com.
