NEW MADRID, Mo. — Evelyn Gertrude Dubois, 83, passed away peacefully at her home in New Madrid on Nov. 19, 2020. She was cared for by her daughter, Phyllis St. Mary, and many other loving caretakers through an extended illness. NEW MADRID, Mo. — Evelyn Gertrude Dubois, 83, passed away peacefully at her home in New Madrid on Nov. 19, 2020. She was cared for by her daughter, Phyllis St. Mary, and many other loving caretakers through an extended illness.

In Matthews, Missouri, on April 30, 1937, Gertrude, the fifth child of eight, was born to John Sterling Nolen and Evelyn Miller Nolen. On February 14, 1953, in Marston, Missouri, she was married to Jessie (Jack) Sullenger, who preceded her in death in May, 1977. She was later married to Alvin Dubois in Marston.

As a devout Christian and member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Marston, her church family was very dear to heart. Her easy nature touched many people through her garden bounty, homecooked meals or beautiful flowers.

Survivors include: her husband, Alvin Dubois; two daughters, Linda (Mitchell) Allen of Lilbourn, Missouri, Phyllis (Richard) St. Mary of New Madrid; one son, Bill (Carolyn) Sullenger of New Madrid; one sister, Joyce Nettles of Shelby Township, Michigan; two granddaughters, Rebecca Guthrie and Angela Sullenger; six grandsons, Chris Allen, Ryan Allen, Scott Allen, Luke St. Mary, Josh St. Mary and Jessie Sullenger; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were one son, Kenneth Sullenger; five brothers, William Nolen, Gene Nolen, Robert Nolen and David Nolen; one sister, Margaret Sebourn.

Graveside services were Nov. 21 in the Mounds Park Cemetery with Richards Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
