Positive cases slowing in area as nation braces for surge

As states brace for a coronavirus surge following holiday gatherings, the number of new cases locally has been somewhat subdued but seven deaths were reported in the area since Friday.

Scott County has reported 42 new cases since Friday with 35 recoveries. As of Monday afternoon, the Scott County Health Department was reporting 894 active cases with 2,535 recoveries. There has been 63 deaths.

The Mississippi County Health Department reported their 27th death related to COVID-19 on Monday along with 22 new positive cases. Currently there are 52 active cases in the general community while 1,122 have recovered.

There are five active cases at the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston, Missouri.

Twenty new cases since Friday were reported by the Stoddard County Public Health Center, with 10 reported over the weekend and 10 on Monday.

There are currently 96 active cases with 2,545 recovered while 60 deaths related to the virus have been reported.

There were five deaths reported Monday by the Cape Girardeau Public Health Center. One person was in their 60s, two people were in their 70s and one in the 80s and another in their 90s. Two were residents of long-term care facilities.

To date, there has been 115 deaths in Cape Girardeau County related to COVID-19.

The county saw a decrease of 57 active cases Monday, with 1,628 cases currently active and 6,187 cases resolved.

A death was also reported by the Pemiscot County Public Health Center on Monday, the 31st in the county.

To date, there are 40 active cases in Pemiscot County with nine of those hospitalized. Over 1,400 have been released from isolation.

There are 53 active cases in Dunklin County with 2.653 recoveries and 18 deaths related to the coronavirus.

Statewide there has been 405,589 cases to date with 5,825 deaths since the pandemic began in March.

Updated numbers had not been released from the New Madrid County Health Department at noon on Tuesday.
