Number of positive cases slows; five deaths reported in the area

As the number of new COVID-19 cases continues to slow in the area, five additional deaths were reported in the area since Friday.

The Scott County Health Department reported one death over the weekend, a resident in their 60s. The death is 71st in the county since the pandemic began.

The health department also reported 29 new cases along with 45 recoveries. As of Tuesday morning, there were 739 active cases in the county with 3,605 recoveries.

Mississippi County has 17 new cases since Friday as the number of active cases has increased from 43 to 55. There has been 1,137 released from isolation while 27 deaths related to the virus have been reported.

At the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston, Missouri, the number of active cases stayed the same at six with 263 out of isolation. There have been no deaths reported at the SECC.

The Stoddard County Public Health Center reported 16 new cases since Friday, 14 of those reported on Monday. There are 106 active cases in the county with 2,795 recoveries and 60 deaths recorded since the pandemic began in March.

Three deaths were reported in Cape Girardeau County on Monday. Two deaths were residents in their 80s while the other was a resident in their 90s. One death was a resident in a long-term care facility. To date there has been 128 deaths in Cape Girardeau County.

The number of active cases in Cape Girardeau saw a significant drop on Monday, however, falling from 1,586 active cases to 1,343 on Monday afternoon. There has been 6,862 cases resolved in Cape Girardeau County since March.

One death was also reported in Pemiscot County, the 32nd for the county while 43 cases are still active as of Tuesday morning, with 8 hospitalizations. The Pemiscot County Health Center reports 1,456 have been released from isolation.

In Dunklin County, there are 72 active cases with 2,760 recovered and 18 deaths related to the virus reported since March.

Current numbers for New Madrid County were not released Tuesday morning.
