Scott County second in state in COVID-19 vaccinations; other counties lagging

While Cape Girardeau County is tops in Missouri in the percentage of residents who have received the COVID-19 vaccine, Scott County ranks second in the state.

In numbers reported Friday morning by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, 11.8% of Cape Girardeau County’s population has received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 9.2% of Scott County residents have received their first dose of the vaccine.

In Scott County, there were 4,163 COVID-19 doses administered, with 3,521 receiving their first dose and 639 receiving both doses. In the last seven days, there were 1,816 doses administered to Scott County residents.

The Scott County Health Department, working in conjunction with Missouri Delta Medical Center, is giving the vaccine on Thursday for those who fall in the Phase 1B-Tier 2 category. All the time slots for Thursday and Friday were both filled.

While both Cape Girardeau and Scott Counties are sitting at the top of the counties in the state receiving the virus, other local counties are still falling a little behind.

Statewide, 5.7% of the population has received their first dose, while in New Madrid County, approximately 4.9% of the population has received their first dose.

In New Madrid County, there were 936 doses administered to residents, with 866 receiving their first dose and 70 receiving both doses. In the last week, there were 346 doses administered to New Madrid County residents.

In Mississippi County, there were 791 doses administered to residents, with 715 receiving their first dose, making 5.4% of the population getting the first dose. Seventy-six residents have received both doses; there were 330 doses administered in the last week.

Stoddard County has administered 1,041 doses in the last week, and as of Friday morning, 6% of residents had received their first dose. There have been 1,937 doses administered to residents, with 1,741 receiving their first dose and 195 receiving both doses.
