Cases continue to decline; more residents begin getting vaccine

The number of local coronavirus cases continues to decline while more and more people are beginning to get their first round of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Scott County Health Department reported only 30 new positive cases from Jan. 26 through Monday afternoon while 27 more have recovered. As of Monday, Scott County had 470 active cases while 3,232 had recovered and 75 deaths had been reported.

As of Tuesday morning, 11.9% of Scott County residents had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, second-most in the state of Missouri. According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, 5,230 doses have been administed to Scott County residents with 4,557 receiving their first dose and 670 getting both doses. In the last week, 1,598 doses were administered to Scott County residents.

The Mississippi County Health Department reported just 15 new cases in the last week on Monday, leaving the county with 19 active cases in the community. There has been 28 deaths and 1,260 are out of isolation in Mississippi County. There are no current active cases at the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston, Missouri.

Only 6.3% of county residents have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine with 914 doses administered to county residents. Of those, 836 have had the first dose administered while 78 have received their second dose. In the last seven days 254 doses have been giving to Mississippi County residents.

The last update from the New Madrid County Health Department given last week had 19 active cases with 1,984 out of quarantine and 41 deaths related to the virus.

In New Madrid County, 6.5% of the residents have received their first dose of the vaccine with 1,261 doses administered to county residents. To date, 1,134 residents have received their first dose while 127 have had both doses. In the last week, 455 doses have been given to residents.

The Stoddard County Public Health Center reported 65 active cases Monday with 2,859 recoveries and 61 deaths related to COVID-19.

As of Tuesday morning, 7.4% of Stoddard County residents had been administered their first dose of the vaccine with 2,363 doses given. Of those, 2,138 residents have received their first dose with 224 receiving both doses. In the last week, 876 doses have been given to Stoddard County residents.
