Light, freezing rain across the area overnight has resulted in several accidents and the region is being asked to not travel unless absolutely necessary.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky, the light freezing drizzle and light sleet has left a thin layer of ice, especially on back roads, roads not treated and even some of the main roads in the area.
Many untreated parking lots, driveways, sidewalks and other surfaces are very dangerous to walk on as well.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, many city streets and less traveled secondary roads are glazed over with ice. They encourage drivers to increase their following distance, buckle up and put down their phone.
The NWS predicts more freezing rain, freezing drizzle and sleet are on the way and the precipitation should pick up by afternoon as the area remains under an Ice Storm Warning until 6 p.m. Thursday.
